For my big senior project at KU we are making a short film “Inner Thoughts”. I am the lead editor on this project and I’m so excited to work on it.
Inner Thoughts is a short film about the discovery of love. Follow college students Emily and James as they meet at a coffee shop and try to find the courage to talk to one another. We as an audience get to dive into the minds of these characters through voice-overs, hearing their thoughts take form, hence the name Inner Thoughts. Emily is a kind and ambitious student, eager to take on and change the world. James is a charismatic, nerdy, and passionate student who lives big and loves full. Will they be able to conquer their fears and talk to one another, or will their thoughts get the best of them?
The romantic comedy genre has been explored for many years, but something we wanted to implement in this film was showing the character’s true feelings from the beginning. As many of us know, we rarely say what we feel, what better way to see the true feelings of a character than to dive into their mind and hear it all? What we really hope the audience can take away from this is to take risks and step out of their comfort zone, because sometimes making that leap can bring endless amounts of good.
Below is the current rough cut of the short film.
During my time at KU, I took a basic production course and produced the following short film.
